The MICRO Test of Time (ToT) award recognizes the most influential papers published in prior sessions of the International Symposium on Microarchitecture®. Three winners were selected for 2020:

  • A Dynamic Multithreading Processor (MICRO 1998)
    Haitham Akkary, Michael A. Driscoll
  • Fetch Directed Instruction Prefetching (MICRO 1999)
Glenn Reinman, Brad Calder, Todd M. Austin
  • A Permutation-Based Page Interleaving Scheme to Reduce Row-Buffer Conflicts and Exploit Data Locality (MICRO 2000)
Zhao Zhang, Zhichun Zhu, Xiaodong Zhang

Congratulations to the winners! You can read brief highlights about the impact and significance of each paper on the MICRO website. Nominations are being accepted for the 2021 award.

A Joint Statement About Recent Events

SIGARCH, SIGMICRO, TCCA, and TCuARCH join together to express our denunciation of racism and to stand together, particularly in support of African American members of our community, as representatives of our research community. Together, we mourn the innocent Black lives violently taken recently, without cause, including but not limited to George Floyd, Breonna Taylor and Ahmaud Arbery.

Computer Architecture Student Association

CASA, the Computer Architecture Student Association, is an independent student-run organization that spans across all of the SIGs and TCs in the computer architecture community. CASA's vision is to ensure student wellbeing and foster a sense of belonging, with the goal of nurturing a vibrant, inviting, and productive student community. Since its formation in October 2020, CASA has spearheaded several initiatives in the community, including student mentoring activities, raising awareness about student wellbeing, and events for socializing and building connections.

Recent events organized by CASA include a summer reading group on diversity, equity, and inclusion in the architecture community, a WCAE 2021 paper on the state of mentoring in the community and the need for long-term mentoring programs, and the online ArchChat social hour. If you're interested in learning more about CASA, or would like to participate in organizing future events, please visit the CASA website and sign up!

Upcoming SIGMICRO-Sponsored Events

  • Call for Submissions: ACM Student Research Competition (SRC) at MICRO 2021
    Due: July 22, 2021

The 54th IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Microarchitecture® invites participation in the ACM Student Research Competition (SRC). Sponsored by Microsoft, the SRC is a forum for undergraduates and graduate students to share their research results, exchange ideas and improve their communication skills while competing for prizes. Students accepted to participate in the SRC are entitled to a travel grant (up to $500) to help cover travel expenses.
  • Call for Nominations: 2021 MICRO Test of Time Award
    Due: August 21, 2021

The MICRO Test of Time (ToT) Award Committee is soliciting nominations for the eighth MICRO ToT Award. This award recognizes the most influential papers published in past MICRO conferences that have had significant impact in the field. Visit the award website for information on eligible papers and the nomination process.
  • Call for Papers: CGO 2022
    Abstracts Due: August 27, 2021
Full Submissions Due: September 3, 2021

The International Symposium on Code Generation and Optimization (CGO) is a premier venue to bring together researchers and practitioners working at the interface of hardware and software on a wide range of optimization and code generation techniques and related issues. The conference spans the spectrum from purely static to fully dynamic approaches, and from pure software-based methods to specific architectural features and support for code generation and optimization. Visit the online call for papers for more information on solicited topics and the submissions process.
  • Call for Participation: CASES 2021
    October 10–15, 2021

CASES is a premier forum where researchers, developers and practitioners exchange information on the latest advances in compilers and architectures for high-performance, low-power embedded systems. The conference has a long tradition of showcasing leading edge research in embedded processor, memory, interconnect, storage architectures and related compiler techniques targeting performance, power, predictability, security, reliability issues for both traditional and emerging application domains. Attend this year's virtual event, held as part of the larger ESWEEK event!
  • Call for Participation: MICRO 2021
    October 16–20, 2021

MICRO 2021, the 54th edition of the IEEE/ACM International Symposium on Microarchitecture®, will take place this October. MICRO is the premier forum for presenting, discussing, and debating innovative microarchitecture ideas and techniques for advanced computing and communication systems. This symposium brings together researchers in fields related to microarchitecture, compilers, chips, and systems for technical exchange on traditional microarchitecture topics and emerging research areas. Current plans are to host the event in Athens!
